Bringing Scale to Phased Arrays for Commercial and Defense Applications

Electronics is now part of every segment of our lives thanks to efficiencies enabled by from the mission goals to system level to component technologies to manufacturing is essential. We are really just entering the era of phased arrays for radar, imaging, spectrum surveillance and flexible terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication systems.

John Cowles has 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. After 5 years as senior member of the technical staff at TRW-Space Park, he joined Analog Devices in Beaverton, OR as an analog and RF IC designer under Technical Fellow Barrie Gilbert. He has held numerous technical and business strategy leadership roles at ADI. His broad technical experience includes solid-state physics and electromagnetics; semiconductor device and process technologies; high performance analog, RF and microwave IC design; and system level analysis and trade-offs. In his current role as Senior Director of Technology, he works closely with technologists and strategy leaders inside and outside ADI across a range of topics such as digitizers, edge processing, cyber/encryption,  advanced packaging, quantum computing and photonics. John earned his BSEE in 1987 from the University of Pennsylvania and MS and PhD in EE in 1989 and 1994 from the University of Michigan under Professor George Haddad.
